Frequently Asked Questions
About settling in
How long does it take to feel settled?
Everyone is different. Many people say the first 6 - 12 months are the hardest, and that community connection made the biggest difference. Be patient with yourself.
Is help from services really free?
Settlement services funded by government are free. Registered charities and Migrant Resource Centres don't charge for standard support. Be cautious of anyone charging for things that are free - like TFN applications or Medicare enrolment.
About this website
Who runs Migrants Hub Australia?
MHA is an independent, community-focused initiative - not a government agency. We collect, check and plainly explain information, and give community groups a free platform to reach their members. Read more in About MHA.
Can I trust the listings?
Community groups and event hosts provide their own details, and our team reviews every submission before publication. If something looks wrong, report it using the "Tell us" link on any page.
Is my information safe on this site?
We only collect information you choose to give us — for example, when you submit an event. See our Privacy Policy.
About visas and legal matters
Can Migrants Hub give me visa advice?
No. Only registered migration agents and lawyers can legally give migration advice in Australia. We can help you find one - see Registered Migration Agents and Legal Help. Beware of unregistered "agents".
