Bogan Shire - Area Guide
Bogan Shire sits at the geographical centre of NSW, where the Mitchell and Barrier Highways meet on the Bogan River.
Headquartered in Nyngan (population about 2,500), it’s a close-knit agricultural community known for ‘comfortable country living’.

Living here
Nyngan has a hospital, community health centre, a high school, five primary schools, a pre-school and a TAFE campus. Health care is supported by a nursing home complex and baby health centre. Nyngan sits on the Mitchell Highway with coach connections toward Dubbo.
Worth knowing
Nyngan is famous for the Big Bogan statue and its remarkable community spirit — after the 1990 flood, the whole town was airlifted to safety and then rebuilt, protected today by a new levee.
